Be Hygienic Anywhere with Hygienix

If it had not been made obvious by the content on this website, I am a person on the go who loves to eat and explore.  Eating, for most of us, is a continuous event, even for those who say they are on a DIET.  When it comes to restaurants, access to the loo provides us a chance to wash our hands before every meal.  But how about when we ragingly rip open our favorite bag of chips in the car?  Do we immediately snag handful of chips from inside the foiled bag?

At your desk in the office, when you find the need to eat, cough or sneeze, and can’t make a beeline to the washroom, would you make an effort to wipe your hand first or find a sanitizer somewhere inside your drawer?

For most of us who are more aware of the repercussions of bacteria, germs and virus, yes by awareness, I mean the constant trips to the loo due to LBM or vomiting, or scratching due to skin rashes, or sending out an SMS to your boss because you have the flu, we’re more careful about our health.  I would think twice before touching anything, especially food, and stuffing it in my mouth or letting it touch any part of my body.  Call it finicky but at this day and age, where there are different strains of bacteria and viruses mutating, where pollution is at its highest recorded level, it wouldn’t hurt to practice a little bit of hygienic diligence.

I think that’s one of the reasons why I received tons of those little Bath and Body hand sanitizers last Christmas, from a friend from abroad and friends in Manila.  A few came with that rubberized body string you can attach to your bag (mostly Long Champ Le Pliage line) and now you see people lugging it around like a bag accessory.

While I don’t have anything against people who display their hand sanitizers, at least I can easily inspect who to ask for some hee-hee, I took a classic route of just storing my hand sanitizer or alcohol inside my bag or purse.  I’m not a caveman but I really still use alcohol sometimes.  I alternately use the gel form or alcohol although I really prefer alcohol-based.

I got familiar with the brand Hygienix, being one of the major sponsors for the Boracay Open 2011 Ultimate Frisbee.

Hygienix is the newest anti-bacterial player in the market that offers a roster of skin care hygiene products from the Splash Corporation team.  I received a package with several Hygienix products for trial and product review.  Hygienix offers three (3) products: anti-bacterial hand gel, anti-bacterial hand spray and ethyl alcohol.  These three products keep your hands clean and fight germs anytime or anywhere –proven to kill 99.9% of germs.

Hand sanitizers like Hygienix make cleaning your hands or any part of your skin convenient wherever you and at any given time it necessitates.  My favorite has to be the Hygienix anti-bacterial hand spray.  It’s slender, easy on the grip making it a handy on-the-spot cleanser.  Compared to alcohol, Hygienix hand spray has a non-drying formula that retains your hand’s natural moisture.  The scent is not too strong and has a clean fresh scent that makes you think of SUMMER.

And when you think of SUMMER, there’s more excuse to share the rest of the  Boracay photos (from Karen Sanggalang’s LX5 camera):

THE SCENE

With different diseases that come up during summer, pink eyes among others, it’s best to always keep our hands germ-free.  For the modern men and women that lead an active lifestyle like I do, not to mention clumsy as a gawky giant, hand sanitizers are the easiest way to maintain personal hygiene.

And with the simple yet tasteful see-through design of Hygienix, the male species would not hesitate to carry this anti-bacterial spray in their pockets or in their car’s glove compartment.  Go ahead Chaps!  Do so.  Clean and germ-free touchable hands separate the man from the boys.

Ultimate Frisbee Boracay Open 2011

Hannah and I just met each other at the domestic airport that Friday morning.  This was the first time ever that I came this close | | to missing my flight (and it wasn’t even my fault).  The Cebu Pac check-in counter balked “last call!” and I immediately sprinted to get my boarding ticket.  I was rushing so bad that I almost forgot to leave my check-in baggage.  Whew!  What a close call.

As you can see, above my throne says DIET is NOT an OPTION! 😉

On board the plane, I kept gripping the arm handle.  Whenever my body shifted uncomfortably on my seat, Hannah gave me a bright comforting smile and told me, “It’s gonna be okay.  We’re almost there.”  It is one of the smallest planes I ever rode and the turbulence didn’t help ease my anxiety about the flight.  I’m so glad Hannah was there.  She was more than terrific.

We finally reached the shores of Boracay and the first thing on both our minds was FOOD.  We were starving so as soon as we checked in our room at Casa Pilar Resort, we moved out to hunt for some tummy-fillers.  Hannah suggested I Love Backyard BBQ restaurant in D’Mall and that’s where we had our lunch of sizzling bulalo steak and grilled liempo.

Sizzzzzling Bulalo!

Grilled Liempo, the first of 3!

After lunch, we headed back to our rooms to get changed for the afternoon Frisbee clinic near the Hygienix booth.  Hygienix is a new anti-bacterial brand that offers a complete roster of effective skin care.  They are one of the major sponsors of the Boracay Open Ultimate Frisbee where different participating teams duel for the Boracay Open 2011 title.

After filling out the registration form, we were introduced to our Frisbee instructor, X and W.  Yes, they introduced themselves that way so Hannah said to just remember us as H and J –which was really quite funny.  X took the helm and taught us the basics.  He showed us first how to do a backhand pass of the disc, where you have to take a side step and throw the disc with your hand facing you.

Hannah’s Forehand

MY Catch

Frisbee Time

The key is in the flick of the wrist.  This is where power and direction of the throw comes from.  After practicing a few backhand throws with Hannah, X taught us how to do a forehand pass.  Forehand pass usually involves a lunge towards your right side and with the same powerful yet controlled flip of the wrist, but this time, the palm is facing the other way.

Hannah and I continued to practice our backhand and forehand pass as well as catching the disc.  I’ve played Frisbee a few times before with some friends but nothing “formal.”  Learning the basics was really fun and it added a certain level of accuracy and “skill” into playing Frisbee the right way.

Thanks Hannah for this photo! 😉

Guess who?

When the clinic ended, Hannah and I watched the various teams play friendly pre-tournament games.  We spotted Derek Ramsay in the mix with the other Pharmaton team members.

We took a turn at a corner where a hidden coffee gem can be found.  The Real Coffee of Boracay supposedly serves the best coffee on the island.  Its bittersweet taste is perfect with their other bestseller, Calamansi Muffin, which Hannah was supposed to get for Vince as pasalubong (including his favorite Chori Burger) but we lacked time on the last day.

The afternoon stroll took a toll on our legs and the Hygienix booth had the perfect quick fix for it.  FREE foot massage!!!  My feet begged for some kneading.

There was a huge dinner buffet spread and KTV singing earlier in the evening.  Latter part of the night sees the folks shaking and grooving to the dance music blasting from the speakers.

Friends and teams took their photos at the Hygienix photo booth, which made it accessible for memories to be captured.  What happens in Boracay stays in Boracay?  Not with the memorable photos that are developed into personalized bag tags.

Things heat up as Pharmaton team battled versus Boracay Dragons for the ever-changing lead in their match.  These two teams were neck to neck as they catch and defend against goals.  A big crowd cheered for their local team, Boracay Dragons.

They led by 2 points at one point but in the end, Boracay Dragons lost to Derek-led Pharmaton team who kept their momentum and focus to seize the final victory.

A Saturday night wouldn’t be right without a Boracay party.  The FOOL’s PARADISE Party was held at Summer Place and it was teeming with Ultimate Frisbee players all enjoined that night laughing and partying to celebrate the success of the event.

Spotted Noelle at Summer Place! 😉

I surely can’t wait to be back to Boracay… and watch more Frisbee action.   And prolly some other actions happening on that party island.  XOXO

Bamboo Band Disbanding, Reasons Why Bamboo is Disbanding

I guess all of us are in shock hearing the latest in music news.

My photos of Bamboo in 2006

There are always reasons why a band is breaking up, whether all of the band members want to do different things or move forward to a different group or reach a standpoint where creative differences are intolerable… one thing is for sure, Bamboo will always be remembered for the original Pinoy music they brought to us listeners.

Bamboo’s Message over http://www.bamboo.com.ph:

Hello Everybody,

We started the band 2002-2003, playing for small venues or to whoever just wanted to sit down and listen to 4 old dogs that refused to grow up and continued to do what we know we were born to do (it took me awhile, I confess).     No one believed in us at the start.  Always with a chip on our shoulder we were able and willingly ready to prove doubters wrong.

Here we are 7 or 8 (to the few) years later.  (A lifetime in this business)

Things change.

As a group, we’ve come to a point where you have to trust your gut, your heart, and your head and accept that all things change.  The hardest part as always is to know when to pack it up and part ways.  We’ve learned that this journey is not only about us but includes all who came along for the trip.  Family, friends, and of course our front row believers who were there for the best reason of all.  To simply listen.  So it didn’t come easy winding down to this decision.

So here we go-  IT’S OFFICIAL- THE BAND- IT’S OVER.

A chapter closes and a new one begins.  So what happens next?  I don’t know.  2011 and I readily look forward to tomorrow’s “I don’t knows” and hiccups.  So “here we go” a new page.

This is not the end.  We move forward for all the right reasons.  This is not a sad day.  Music will forever be a part of our lives and I couldn’t imagine us just simply walking away.  Not possible.  All I see are possibilities.

Our friends, fans, supporters, and believers.  Thank You.

To the few brave producers out there.  Thank you.

Our business partners throughout the year.  Thank you.

To EMI and Polyeast.  Thank you.

This is not goodbye.

Bamboo Manalac

I am a huge fan.  Bubba is a bigger fan… a supporter, a believer.  He still can’t believe that the band indeed disbanded.  One friend said, with Bamboo leaving a band named “Bamboo”, it doesn’t make sense for the rest of the band to stay on.  Even if the band’s name Bamboo really stands for “resilience” or strength of character or music, it really won’t be the same without Bamboo, Ira, Nathan and Vic weaving music together.

I’m sure all the Bamboo fans are anticipating the last gig of Bamboo somewhere someday.  Will there ever be?

Earthquake Rocks Luzon

A magnitude 6 earthquake hit the province of Mindoro early Friday afternoon, the United States Geological Survey reported. The earthquake hit at around 2:23 p.m., USGS said.

I’m not sure what the magnitude was in Metro Manila (supposedly 3-4 in Richter scale) but being on the top most level of a building in Pasig, I felt the shake and it was quite nerve racking.

Ateneo and DLSU Face Again in Round 2 This Sunday

It was only last Sunday when the Araneta Coliseum was filled to the brim with ADMU and DLSU fanatics.  The Ateneo de Manila University won that game against De La Salle University 76-72 in overtime.  This coming Sunday, watch out for another tight bball battle as the two school favorites face each other again in the second round of the 72nd University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s basketball tournament.

While Ateneans usually wear blue and La Sallians green, both schools wore yellow as a sign of national unity during its first meet to also honor the late former president Corazon Aquino.

Clinton Bridges Between North Korea and US

Former United States President Bill Clinton was instrumental in freeing two U.S. journalists who were detained for almost 5 months in North Korea.  His recent visit to Pyongyang helped in the successful release of reporters Euna Lee, 36, a South Korean born US citizen and Laura Ling, 32, a California native.

The journalists were arrested near the North Korean-Chinese border in March while on a reporting trip for Current TV, a media outfit founded by former Vice President Al Gore.  Kim Jong II pardoned the women who were sentenced to 12 years of hard labor for entering the country illegally and supposedly engaging in “hostile acts”.

Clinton was reported to have apologized on behalf of the women and their grief-stricken families and relayed President Barack Obama’s gratitude.

However, Secretary Clinton said at a news conference today in Nairobi that no apology was made to North Korea in connection with her husband’s mission to gain the reporters’ release.

2 weeks ago, North Korea insulted Hillary Clinton by calling her a “funny lady.”

Tensions have been increasing between North Korea and the U.S. due to illicit nuclear-arms program of North Korea.  The heightened friction between the two was created by North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests.  Kim Jong II also seems to be belligerent in continuing negotiation talks.

Will the visit contribute to a deepening relationship between North Korea and the United States?  Will this event open renewed discussions to abandon nuclear weapons program or is it only delaying the foreseeable conflict between the two countries?

Ateneo Blue Eagles Flight Deferred by UP Fighting Maroons

The first win of the UP Fighting Maroons (68) only meant the first loss for the Ateneo Blue Eagles (58) at the UAAP Season 72nd elimination round last Sunday, July 26.  After three straight losses, UP finally mustered a win and at the hands of a formidable foe this season.  Ateneo is on top of the standings with three wins in a row.

Former Ginebra player and current UST coach was also very proud of his boys when the oldest school in Manila gathered the first win against UE since 2006.  The UST Tigers pulled off a victory against the University of the East Warriors, 92-88, to inch up in the standings and claim the number #2 spot with 3-1 records, same as FEU Tamaraws.

SPURS’ Richard Jefferson Got Cold Feet

NBA star Richard Jefferson called off the wedding ceremony a few days before the big day.

He broke up with his fiancee and reasons are still unknown.

Jefferson was scheduled to marry former New Jersery Nets dancer Kesha Ni’Cole Nichols at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City.    Although the ceremony was canceled days before dooms day, many guests were left unnotified thus showing up at the venue expecting to see the wedding go as planned.

Kesha Ni’Cole Nichols must have been pretty upset to let the supposedly “USD 2 million” wedding go kaput.

Buzz online are flourishing now about Jefferson being gay or Kesha being a gold digger, when in fact, neither might be the case.

Rob Pattinson Cab Accident

Rob Pattinson was hit by a taxi cab on Thursday while escaping from screaming fans!

While the 23-year old Twilight star was shooting a movie that co-stars Emilie de Ravin in the Big Apple, a cab grazed him but the cabbie was able to hit on the brakes before major damage happened.  The incident happened in front of the Strand Bookstore on Broadway and 12th Street.  The hysterical teen girls surprised Rob and he rushed across the street.

Thankfully, he was not seriously hurt.  The hazards of stardom!
