Spent my Saturday at the WordCamp Philippines event held at College of St. Benilde. Good thing there was no hitches in getting my laptop in. The lady guard gladly helped me fill out the form and voila! I can enter the premises with the laptop. It’s good that CSB is implementing this protocol because it prevents someone from claiming a laptop that is not rightfully his.
I bumped into Jonel, Jayvee and Phoebe separately at the auditorium. I sat behind Nina and checked the Wi Fi connection. Later on, I had to sit next to another Jane so I can plug my laptop for charging.
I attended three classes that morning. After the welcoming remarks from the Management and Information System Dean Benhur Ong, the organizers, Mindanao Bloggers, I headed to room 410 for Blogging 102 at 930am. Jayvee Fernandez facilitated Blogging 102, Basics and Beyond.
2nd class was quite interesting too. The door sign read WordPress Optimization. The WordPress Write Page I can use but I don’t know how to add widgets and all those other stuff that makes your utilization of your website better. I figured this class would teach me how to use WordPress functions thus better use of the site. Optimize means that right? I entered the door and picked a seat at the back. I was feeling anxious whether or not I was in the right class. Good thing it wasn’t starting anytime soon. When I caught the eye of the facilitator, I walked towards him. I was being a blonde dumbshell by asking which class I was in. The facilitator said it was WordPress Optimization class. Not only did I look like a complete douche bag, but also I was really being the part by asking, “that teaches you how to go about WordPress right?” A quick east and west of the eye checked whether this was a practical joke and a camera was behind him. He gave me a weird look that confirms my being a moron. “Uhm… yes.” I gave a meek smile and went back to my seat at the back of the classroom.
For the 1120am classes, I was torn between picking Video Blogging or Journalism in Blogging. I chose the former since the Journalism class was almost full and I have totally no idea how to do a video blog. I think I made a good choice because I learned a lot from her presentation and Kring was pretty entertaining –emphasis on pretty. She gave a lot of tips of how to make your video blog kick a**.
By 1230pm, I was eating lunch alone in one of the classrooms. After lunch, I had to head off to Araneta Coliseum to reserve seats in the Upper A section. Sucks but you gotta do what you gotta do if you’re a UAAP fan. 1pm is usually safe, there are still some good seats to choose from. I arrived in Araneta 150pm and almost all the seats were reserved!!! Some people reserved one whole row all for themselves, which I find a little unfair because some people (raising my hand) actually go 2-3 hours early to reserve a seat only to find out that it’s already SRO (standing room only) because of all the reserved rows. 2-3 seats I can understand being saved, but more than that, hey come on… you gotta give way to those who are actually physically there.
UAAP: DLSU v. Ateneo Round 2 (Thanks Didi for making it possible. XoXo)
I watched round 1 between DLSU and Ateneo and was hoping that round 2 proved to be our game match against the other school this season. Unfortunately, Jayvee Casio was not in his element that day. Defense displayed was poor in the first half. We were closing the gap in 3rd quarter only to have the momentum short-lived with a time-out and basket conversion by Ateneo. Ateneo played a team game last Saturday and truly deserved the win. I have to say though that the DLSU Pep Squad made quite a showing during halftime. This has got to be the best form I’ve seen them -clean jumps and well coordinated techniques.
Next game, DLSU needs to beat FEU for the 3rd placement in the ranks.
