Tour de France had more than a battle with the road.
Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador are at each other’s throat again.
Contador secured his second Tour win last week in Paris. But a word war ensued again between the two celebrated cyclists after a fragile truce during the Tour de France.
The seven time champion Armstrong criticized Contador early this year saying that the latter was inexperienced. He also took a shot at Contador’s habit of shooting an imaginary pistol during victory celebrations. Contador revealed that he had no admiration for the American as a person and tensions between the two had a negative effect on the Astana team.
Contador and Armstrong entered this year’s Tour jousting for position as the Astana team leader—an unusual situation in cycling, where team’s normally have a clear No. 1 rider who is supported by the rest of the squad. Armstrong briefly held a slight edge over Contador in the first week but the latter proved too strong in the mountains and was able to pull away for a decisive edge in the Alps. Armstrong is launching his own U.S.-based team for next year, while Contador might look for a team that will clearly support him.
Michael Jackson’s Doctor Investigated
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents and LAPD detectives searched the residence and office of Conrad Murray, each location a week apart. Murray is Michael Jackson’s doctor who is believed to have given Jackson a lethal dose of anesthetic Propofol.
Propofol is used to induce unconsciousness in patients ahead of major surgery. In hospitals, only a trained anesthesiologist is allowed to administer the drug under strict monitoring conditions.
TMZ.com reported that Murray had told police in an interview he gave Jackson Propofol via an intravenous drip. The website reported police believe Murray may have fallen asleep while the drug was being administered, and awoke to find the singer already dead.
If Murray did inject Jackson with Propofol negligently, he can be charged with homicide.
The federal agents and police came to his office a week earlier with a search warrant seeking evidence for the “offense of manslaughter”
The LA Coroner’s office reported that the toxicology result is due by the end of this week.
