Philippines 2010 Elections: Krispy Kreme Wants You to DOugh YOUR PART
There’s always politicking in the Philippines whether it’s election period or not. Campaigning went to full gear around 3rd quarter of last year. When the campaign period officially started, streets became filled with campaign posters and TV programs have been loaded with political advertisements.
It’s national elections and debates both on TV and in casual environments have skyrocketed on who to vote for, quite particularly in the seat of the next President.
I think there are also other important things to consider this coming election. For instance, it will be a first in the country for registered voters to use an automated voting system.
A mock election conducted by COMELEC showed that some voters did not know where and how to cast their ballots. Efforts from various sectors like on-air commercials are being made to be able to educate the voters. Krispy Kreme is doing its part to contribute as well.
The well-loved family brand is out to their own campaign called “Vote 2010: Dough Your Part” and in doing so have devised their own way to help spread awareness. They have created a mock ballot wherein voters will choose their winning doughnut and coffee. “We wanted to make it a fun learning experience for the voters”, Mark Gamboa, Marketing Manager of Krispy Kreme said. “This will help them prepare for the real, automated voting system.” He adds.
Given the insufficient knowledge of the voters regarding the new voting system, Krispy Kreme will give voters a chance to learn more about it. “So when the elections come, they wouldn’t be confused” Gamboa said. This awareness then leads to an organized and peaceful election.
Other than sharing the knowledge, the mock ballot Krispy Kreme has created will also encourage them to actually exercise their right to vote. “Once they try the mock ballot, it will urge them to go out and vote.” Gamboa said. Since it is a new system and others may think it will be problematic, the Krispy Kreme campaign may help them think otherwise. For everyone to further maximize this advocacy, limited edition Krispy Kreme Vote 2010 doughnuts will be available on the said event and from May 8 to 10.
“With this, the spirit of this campaign can be made more visible.” he said. With this campaign, Krispy Kreme proves itself as more than a doughnut brand. They are also advocates of responsible citizenship. They have shown how doughnuts and coffee became a viable tool to educate Filipinos about the latest voting system.

Presidential Race to the Altar?
Senator Manuel Roxas II has sacrificed his presidential bid for 2010 to give way to fellow Liberal Party member, Senator Benigno “Noy Noy” Aquino III, who is currently away in Zamboanga to seek spiritual guidance. He will be back on Monday but will probably reveal his decision on whether or not to run for president after September 9, the 40th mourning day of his mother, former President Cory Aquino.
During his speech at Club Filipino, the same venue where President Cory Aquino took her oath as the first woman president, he urged people to pray with him to assess people’s readiness to accompany him in this fight.
Meanwhile, Noy Noy’s sister, celebrity host Kris Aquino said in her show, Showbix News Ngayon, that she is giving 100 percent support to her brother in case he decides to run a presidential campaign. She further declared on Wednesday night that she requested Noy Noy to remain single for the meantime since he already has enough big decisions on his plate as it is.
People tend to speculate that Kris might have reservations about the current girlfriend of Noy Noy, Shalani Soledad, a councilor of Valenzuela’s 2nd district.
Kris retracts her statement Thursday evening on SNN and apologized for meddling in her brother’s love life. She again promised not to talk about Noy Noy’s affairs of the heart.
