Aah the ever changing wind, how are you swept by the wind? They say life is a plethora of things we can and cannot remember. I say, luckily for me, I try to write about the journeys I take as much as I can to help me remember, relive and share them. What moments in your life have captured your memory?
In 2006, I joined a study tour in Japan sponsored by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). At 24, I was one of the youngest at that time in the batch. It was quite memorable since it was my first time to fly out of the country on my own, without family in tow. It was also my first time to be away for a month from home.
I met a good friend there and she was already at her 30s then but she looked just like my age. She’s always had this happy vibe and when she laughs her laughter is audible and infectious. I see myself in her because I can relate to that cheery vibe, and I love laughing heartily. While I mistake her age, she tells me that I look younger than my age and looked like in my teens that time.
Moving from Osaka to Tokyo to Kagawa Prefecture and learning about the Japanese culture, their language, and meeting youth counterparts. That time was also my first time to experience snow! White specks of powdery ice.
Another memorable moment is when I jumped off Macau Tower in 2008. I have the biggest fear of heights and closed spaces. Yes, I am both acrophobic and claustrophobic. We initially figured we’ll just do a tandem “sky jump.”
Unfortunately for me, Bubba was overweight. Yep, all the excess weight are all him. *shakes head* There was a maximum limit of what they can allow as tandem jump and we didn’t pass.
We had to do it solo. I almost bailed out, disregarding the fact that I’m wasting xx amount of cash. Finally, after summoning all the courage to jump, and taking reign of my fear, I… fell. So technically, yes, I jumped off the Macau Tower, one of the tallest jump-off points in the whole wide world. Woohoooooo! Cue in *thundering applause right here*
Of recent times, I’d say being recognized for the passion and hard work I do in my corporate life is one of the more memorable moments for me. Just last month, our company held its annual employee recognition event at the Dolphy Theater.
