Robinsons Starmills in Pampanga and its Outlet Stores

Pampanga is not only a haven of wonderful and delectable Pampanga dishes, it’s also home to Robinsons Starmills who is known to carry the most outlet stores in one venue.

Bubba and I visited Pampanga for a whole day of food-tripping at Everybody’s Café and Zapata’s in December 2008.  In between our food adventures, we decided to stop by Robinsons Starmills to check out the Mango outlet store there we heard from Marie.  We went home both very happy about our purchases –I had some good fashion finds from Mango and a few tops from Terranova.  Bubba bought a pair of jeans from Levi’s, regularly priced, but he didn’t mind, it was a great fit.

I was able to get 4 dresses from Mango that time that totaled only less than 5K, one of which is a Grecian-type Maxi dress that cost only PHP 1,400.

That’s why I was a bit excited to be back in Robinsons Starmills last Wednesday afternoon (yes, I filed a half-day leave and took a midweek break from work).  It’s been almost two years since my last visit but my hunger to search for good deals never deterred.

It was relatively a short drive of 50 minutes to 1 hour to Pampanga taking the North Luzon Expressway.  Upon arriving, we had some refreshments from the Rosemary and Thyme restaurant.

Armed with a satisfied tummy and a quick run-through of where the stores are located, shopping in the outlet stores has come to full swing.

After shopping, we had a yummy-rific dining experience at Fiesta Kapampangan with live band to entertain us with their music.  Fiesta Kapampangan is a melange of restaurants and food stalls that boast of Kapampangan Cuisine specialties all in one place.

Shopping review: I got a classy gray turtleneck from Mango (PHP 449), 4 belts (PHP 50 each) and 1 bracelet (PHP 129) from Gozum and 3 shoes from Nine West (total of PHP 1,700) -which would normally retail between PHP 5,000-6,000 a pair!!! 🙂  I got everything for less than PHP 3,000.  What a steal!

Be amazed with big big discounts on great selections from International brands like Mango, Adidas, Havaianas, Guess, American Rag, etc. and from popular local boutiques like Plains & Prints, Space, etc.  If you’re looking for a year-round sale, Robinsons Starmills in Pampanga is where a shopaholic like yourself should be headed! 😉

Scents of a Woman

Bubba surprised me one day, albeit not too smoothly, with a gift.  No occasion at all.  It was just a simple gift that illustrated his thoughtfulness.  I was giddy.  I read the box and it said Sarah Jessica Parker.  I can’t help cringing, as I am not best in hiding my feelings whatever it is, but properly said, “thank you” and hugged him.  Now, I have nothing against SJP and I like her (I don’t necessarily love her like girls who desperately and observably imitate her character, Carrie in Sex and the City) but I’m iffy about “celebrity” perfumes since most are eagerly produced without much thought and study.  They only let the celebrity’s name be the retail thrust.

I smelled it and initially thought it was strong and is more suitable for an age-bracket that’s older than mine.  It’s evocative of the words risky, mature, and bold.

After a few days though, I realized that the smell is milder than I initially thought.  It’s bordering girly and sexy, scent markings of chocolate, lavender and lemon.

Online it says that the notes include wet greens, geranium leaves, Sicilian lemon, lavender, chocolate, honeysuckle, magnolia, muguet, musk, vetiver, bois de cashmere, teakwood and amber.

It’s my favorite parfum at this time so Dolce and Gabbana’s Light Blue and DKNY’s Be Delicious Apple (which is my 2nd bottle, expensive at 4K plus) took a backseat.  Bubba really has excellent taste 😉  (Thanks again Bubbalicious!)

This is the second perfume I got from Bubba.  The first one was during our first Christmas together and it was Lacoste Touch of Pink –which I really really adored.

Some of the perfumes I loved through the years (which I at least had 4 bottles of) also include L’Eau Par Kenzo, Escada Sentiment, Estee Lauder Pleasures, Clinique Happy, Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, D&G Light Blue, Acqua de Gio, Ralph Lauren Polo Sport Women (which is the very least I like now –my favorite in HS but I guess my scent preference is different now).  I think there’s a handful more that I don’t quite remember at this exact moment but above are the ones I still won’t hesitate to use until now.

I’ve also used and pretty much like Gucci Ii Perfume, Tommy Hilfiger Dreaming (which might be the bottle I buy next), Jennifer Lopez’s Love at First Glow (only because it was on SALE in Japan when I bought, plus the cute pink bottle and charm attached to it!  It reminded me of the sexy bottle of Cool Water Women in HS.  Bubba hates the smell.)  I kept at least one empty bottle to remember my perfumes by but when Bubba laughed at how sentimental I was about them, I decided to throw it out last year in one of my “de-cluttering” moments (okay, honestly, it stayed for a few more weeks in our garage but the bag of empty perfume bottles was eventually thrown out).

I used to have at least 4 perfumes at a certain season but realized that it’s such a waste and the perfume vaporizes after some time so now I only keep one or two.

I think the very first perfume I used was my mom’s Christian Dior’s Pure Poison (eeps, I faint now) and when I was in grade school watching “combos” in hotel music lounges, I was akin to the singers’ perfume, which I later discovered as Farenheit (I faint again).  I also liked Perris Ellis when I was young.  I can only shake my head now.

There was a time (mostly in HS and Freshman College) I was more into men’s perfume and actually wore them instead of women’s.

In the recent years, the colognes I like in men include Armani Black, Acqua de Gio, Carolina Herrera 212, Hugo Boss 51, Tommy Hilfiger’s “Hilfiger.”

But of course, man or woman, nothing beats the natural scent of the skin right after a shower.

XOXO

The Flying Pig and the BluFish

Friday evening was spent at the DKNY Men Fragrance event staged at Manor Penthouse.  After the event, we met with Pat, Eric, Madz and Jaja (who is in town from Dubai).  Since we were already in the Eastwood City, we decided to have a late dinner (11PM) there.  It took me a while to visit the place because of mixed reviews from blogger and non-blogger friends but I decided to give the Flying Pig/Blu Fish a try, tagging four other friends.

The Flying Pig and BluFish are the tandem restaurants situated side by side at the newest Eastwood mall.  The concept restaurants are another brainchild of young resto-preneur Raymund Magdaluyo who has 19 restaurants under his belt.  Blu Fish specializes in seafood and crabs, very much the same with Seafood Club by Red Crab and ClawDaddy Crab House.  Their bestseller is the chili garlic crab.

The restaurant’s interior is very colorful and inviting particularly to family groups and teens.  Since one is adjacent to the other with a continuing passageway, it’s also easy to order food from the other side.  Bubba and I opted to get one dish from each restaurant, while the rest ordered from the Flying Pig.

On the Table

Back Ribs Dreams Half Slab PHP 338

Flying Pig’s baby back ribs has three choices for basting: Creole blackened, Honey Promegranate, French Espresso.  We chose Creole blackened and its medium spicy peppery basting gives a lot of flavor to the meat.  All half-slab orders come with an order of side dish.  We chose the cheddar whipped potatoes and ordered an extra side of French fries (PHP 75).

The half-slab was surprisingly adequate for two with sufficient amount of meat.  The meat was falling off the bones but still hold that firmness the teeth want to sink into.  The barbeque sauce is outstanding but not overwhelming.  The ribs are falling off the bones deliciously basted in peppery sauce!

Lobster and Prawn Cream Risotto PHP 420

The presentation lacks color making it plainly orange hued.  There were two prawns with head intact that served as garnishing on top of the risotto, as well as a lemon wedge.  The risotto was a little overcooked but it packed that creamy lobster taste descriptive of a light and elegant flavor.  The look can be a bit boring and eventually the taste of this simple dish follows that dull appearance.  A swig of lemon spritz can spruce up the flavor.  Overall, the dish was satisfying that requires more color and flavor texture.

We moved to Jack’s Loft for drinks after dinner.  Great to see Jaja in town -will probably hook up again in the upcoming long weekend.
