Run for a Brighter Future for Street Kids

You race against time each day, navigating through traffic just to get to work on time. You race after deadlines, watching the clock tick away the seconds as you draft presentations and papers. Now, Globe and Virlanie are giving you the chance to really race (literally!) for something worthwhile.

The country’s leading telecommunications provider allows you to gear up and race—not just for fitness and cash prizes—but for a good cause as well in Globe’s Run4Home 2011. To be held on March 27, the run, which features 3K, 5K, 10K, 15K and 21K legs, aims to raise funds for four different institutions by allotting a percentage of the registration fee for pre-selected organizations and charities.

Join runners and athletes like the members of the Manila Dragons Dragonboat racing Team, as well as tri-athlete JT Gonzales, international Marathoner Juan Alberto III, Jonel Mendoza – owner and editor-in-chief of Frontrunner Magazine, and Lara Parpan, editor-in-chief of Women’s Health, as they race through the Bonifacio Global City grounds all the way to the Makati Central Business District and back. Besides being in the company of local personalities and being able to give to charitable organizations, you also get the chance to win cash prizes of up to P15,000.

Registration fees begin at P650 (3K) up to P1,050 (21K); this entitles runners to singlets, a D-tag race chip, bib number, run-photo analysis, downloadable photos and a finisher’s medal for those who join the 21K leg. When registering, you will be prompted to choose from four different organizations to support. A percentage of your registration fee will go to your chosen charity.

When registering for the 2011 Globe Run for Home race, remember to choose Virlanie Foundation, Inc., to give help, hope and love to disadvantaged kids. Virlanie also urges you to take your photo, write your pledge to support Virlanie (“We Run for Virlanie!”) and post this on your Facebook account to show everyone that you’re racing for better homes and brighter hopes for Filipino children.

Virlanie can also send special iron-on stickers of its logo for the first 100 registrants / supporters, so you can attach this on your singlet. Simply email your name, mailing address and proof that you registered for the run at communications@virlanie.org.

Even supporters of the Virlanie Foundation from as far as France will get to join Globe’s Run for Home, through the children, the staff and volunteers of the organization who are ready to put on their running shoes and sweat it out on their behalf.

“Virlanie sees the run not just as awareness building and fundraising campaign but as a testament because physical wellbeing is integral part of its holistic program for its children,” says [Virlanie representative]. “At Virlanie, children are encouraged to join sporting activities like Tae Kwan Do, baseball, futzal and of course running. Even the volunteers and staff have its own sportsfest day once a year. Volunteers also have aerobics class twice a week!“

The Virlanie Foundation is a non-government organization reaching out and giving—not only shelter in the form of physical structures—but also love, support, education and care to abandoned, abused, exploited, neglected, orphaned and poor children.

Since 1992, the Virlanie Foundation has been empowering and extending developmental services to Filipino children, allowing them to become self-reliant, productive and independent citizens through its 12 different homes and 13 programs. Apart from food, shelter and clothing, Virlanie provides children with opportunities to study, finds ways to re-unite them with their families (if the children have any and if the families are capable of caring for the children), and gives children psychological support and counseling, and assistance with their legal cases. To date, Virlanie has helped 13,500 children become self-sufficient and responsible adults.

Please remember to check “Virlanie” when prompted to choose your charity of choice. Slots are limited for the 3k and 5k race, so sign up now!

Earth Hour Forever?

***UPDATE*** Timbaland concert will supposedly start at 930 PM tonight to make way for Earth Hour.

It’s the time of the year again when we show Mother Earth that we still care.

It’s as simple as the flick of a switch.

The lights will go out for one hour on March 27 at 8:30 pm Manila time – wherever you live on planet earth.  It’s called Earth Hour – and it’s our best bet at stopping climate change.

But instead of just expressing your support tonight, you can show it the whole year by being more environment conscious and joining groups that help save the planet.  Manileños can start with helping revive the Pasig River.

Paramore Concert in Manila –What happened?

A lot of my friends were excited about the Paramore concert.  2 days after the Manila gig, there’s a big buzz on the net.  I didn’t watch the Paramore concert but from what I read online I think there were a lot of unhappy VIP ticket holders because their area was switched with the Gold ticket holders.  There was no advise that they were going to switch the Gold and VIP sections –a compelling reason why most VIP ticket holders are asking for refunds.  Bottom line seems to be that they didn’t enjoy the concert anymore because of all the last-minute movements and the fact that they feel that they paid a premium to get a closer experience of the Paramore concert.

I wonder what really happened?

The concertgoers are there to enjoy the music and overall experience.  It’s sad to know that a lot of Paramore fans went home upset.

The Timbaland concert featuring Jojo and Justin Timberlake is already on March 27.  I’m not really keen on watching a concert in open grounds after a hot and tiring Chris Brown & Rihanna concert in Manila in 2008.  I guess I’m just not really big on outdoor concerts –being used to the air-conditioned and seated ambience of Araneta Coliseum.

But since it’s Justin Timberlake and Timbaland and Jojo.  I can make an exemption.  I can feel that this concert will be a blast!!! 🙂

I surefire don’t want to jinx it so I won’t give too much details but… I met with someone from MTV last week and… *crossing my fingers*  I’m just all excited about it.

I hope there won’t be any last minute shuffling there! 😉

Timbaland, Jojo and Justin Timberlake Live in Manila Concert

***UPDATE*** Timbaland concert will supposedly start at 930 PM tonight to make way for Earth Hour.

Rumor has it that Timbaland will have a concert in Manila and his special guest is supposedly Justin Timberlake!!!  I love Timbaland but shouldn’t it be the other way around –a JT concert in Manila featuring Timbaland?  At any rate, I don’t mind who’s on the spotlight but I would love to see both Justin Timberlake and Timbaland in one show -it would be one sizzling performance!!!

U92 is launching, which is the push behind the concert of Timbaland who is supposedly coming to Manila together with Jojo and JT.  I’m so excited to get confirmation on this soon.  My only gripe is, I wish it was going to be held in Araneta Coliseum.
