A Sunday Afternoon Picnic and Serenitea

Sometime late last year, Bubba surprised me with a lazy Sunday afternoon activity.

We stopped by J. Abad Santos Street to order Nachos and the 9-Layer Dip from Ristras and coolers from Serenitea.  The 9-Layer Dip is our favorite pica food that time while the large containers of Serenitea Grass Jelly Jasmine Tea with no sugar (mine) and Hokkaido Milk Tea with 75% sugar (Bubba’s) were our drink of choice to accompany us in our small picnic at Ateneo.

Serenitea had this Chaim Potok saying on the wall, “Come, let us have some tea and continue to talk about happy things.”  And that’s the mantra we carried to the picnic location.  The iPod played soft house music in the background while we watched a dad with his son play soccer across the field.

Bubba kept teasing me every time there was a roving guard passing by because I was scared that we might get shoo-ed off the lawn since it was only us having picnic there 😀

$20,000 Gone in New York Minute

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her entourage allegedly dined at Le Cirque in Manhattan, a prestigious French restaurant in New York City during her recent US trip, New York Post online’s “Page Six” wrote,

“Philippines President Maria Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was at Le Cirque the other night with a large entourage enjoying the good life… Macapagal-Arroyo ordered several bottles of very expensive wine, pushing the dinner tab up to $20,000.”

Renato Reyes, secretary general of the militant group, Bayan, said that it is inappropriate for a Third World country president to wine and dine in such lavish manner given that the rest of the country is in the midst of a crisis. He asserts that the NY dinner certainly leaves a bad taste in the mouth, at least for the rest of the Filipino people. The $20,000 is equivalent to almost 1 million pesos, an amount that can probably supply one township a year’s supply of rice or nourishment.

PGMA’s camp claims that the report was exaggerated and that no taxpayer’s money was used.

Vilma Santos Plays Cory in FilmBio, MMK Features Cory’s Bodyguard

Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, the Star for all Seasons, is being eyed to portray the role of former President Cory Aquino. Vilma is running for reelection and is not allowed to have a movie shown or appear on TV longer than the permitted time setforth by the COMELEC. The launch of the movie would probably start after the elections next year if Vilma were tapped to play the role.

Nike’s Manny Pacquiao Limited Apparel

Saturdays are meant for sleeping in until noon.  Not last Saturday though.  The day started early and we were at the Fort by 9AM. W-H-Y?

Last May 2, 2009, starting 12 noon, Manny Pacquiao fans and supporters get the chance to purchase Pacman’s limited apparel during this one day only event.  The most popular item in the Manny Pacquiao pop up store was the Nike Trainer 1, which retailed at PHP 5,209.

The Manny Pacquiao pop-up store one-off event was held at Magnet Café Bonifacio High Street.  Magnet Café is 2 doors away from the Nike branch store at the Fort.  Limited pairs were also made available at Nike Park BHS the next day.

What we were interested in was the Manny Pacquiao windbreaker that has the Philippine flag design.  When we got there though, there were about 80 people in line already, who supposedly camped out just to get their hands on the items.  3 hours of waiting… and there was no guarantee that when the store opens at 12nn, there would be stocks left.  As much as we wanted to purchase the windrunners, I just didn’t have the patience to wait that long.

Cheers to those who were able to buy what they went there for!!!  I’m green with envy.
