Move over BF Homes and Tomas Morato-Timog area! Kapitolyo is aggressively becoming a hotspot for foodies especially with new restaurants sprouting in the area. In the last month or so, we’ve seen at least 6 new eating destinations launched there, and at least 6 others in a 3-4 month period. What does that mean for us hungry hounds? The habit of eating (and eating more) is truly unbreakable.
Between Bites has rounded up all the new ones to target.

What to Order:
Htipiti (Feta Roast Pepper Dip) P215
I love htipiti since I love feta cheese. Greeka Kouzina’s version has chopped spicy roasted peppers and onions combined with generous serving of feta cheese, finished with olive oil. The brined curd white cheese was slightly sweet, sharp and tangy similar to goat cheese.
Striploin P540
I love Paidakia but decided to go Striploin on this venture. I wanted to add a side of Halloumi cheese but it wasn’t available that evening. Greeka Kouzina’s striploin weighs 300g according to the wait staff. the dry rub on the beef had good flavors going for it.
Arni Keftedes Pasta P195
We ordered another side dish which is the lamb meatballs pasta.
Greeka Kouzina’s creamy lamb meatball pasta served with spaghetti and parmesan cheese was a great company to the striploin. I wouldn’t mind ordering it again.

Hiyas Kare Kare P290 (Solo)
Stewed ox-tail, ox-tripe in rich peanut sauce and coconut milk
The Hiyas Kare Kare also satisfied immensely and had me eating spoonfuls of rice with the nutty creamy sauce battling with the saltiness of the shrimp paste. It had enough ox tripe to not leave me wanting and meat and fat on the ox tail to get my meaty desires gratified.
Hiyas Trio Adobo P325
This was a sampler plate of all the variants of adobo Hiyas can dish out. It includes Adobong Pusit sa Gata, Adobong Baboy sa Achuete, Tinuyo na Adobong Manok (spicy).

What to Order:
Bandeja de Jamon, Chorizo y Quezo Php 800
I particularly liked the one that tasted like Parma ham coated in some sheet of honey. There was a mix of slightly sweet, salty and creamy taste between that and a bite of the cheese, perfectly washed down with the faintly fruity Sangria.
Gambas Al Ajillo Php 280
Calderon’s Gambas Al Ajillo was close to faultless with all that’s savory and garlicky really soaked in the meat of the shrimps. The serving was just right with several pieces on the dish.

Steamed Bamboo Shells P290
Garlic / White Wine / Chili
I was ecstatic to see bamboo shells on the menu since I missed bamboo shells in tausi sauce at Mann Hann. Open Kitchen serves their bamboo shells sautéed in garlic and white wine. I wanted a little more heat but loved the light, clean taste of the dish with the slithery velvety texture of the seafood that has an inside crunch.
Ribeye Steak P960
I just had this Thurs last week and it was great. I won’t mind returning to Open Kitchen for their rib-eye.
