ASUS Zenfones Unleash a Zest for Price-friendly Technology

Two weeks ago, I received two new gadgets for review. While this is primarily a food, travel and lifestyle blog where I share my personal bites of those, I welcome from time to time chance to write reviews for gadgets, gizmos and finds… or constantly be on the lookout for them. Technology nowadays permeates the aspect of food, travel and lifestyle and keeps us up to speed and connects us in many ways, whether to socially share a food photo or download maps for traveling or apps for a foreign language tutorial or guide. My excitement started mounting when I saw that these boxes were ASUS-branded phones. ASUS, known worldwide as top-three consumer notebook vendor and maker of the world’s best-selling motherboards, is an award-winning enterprise that designs and manufactures products that sit at ease in the new digital era.

ASUS carries with it a broad portfolio that includes motherboards, graphics cards, optical drives, displays, desktop and all-in-one PCs, notebooks, netbooks, servers, multimedia devices, wireless solutions, networking devices, tablets and now, market-affordable smartphones. I remember in 2011 ASUS launched the EEE pad / PC which won multiple awards meeting the needs of today’s digital home and office.

Last month, I heard about ASUS’ announcement on the local launch of Zenfone Series and Padfone Mini in the Philippines. In fact, they partnered with Lazada in making these new phones available so consumers can start purchasing Zenfone 4, 5 and 6 from one of the biggest online stores (http://www.lazada.com.ph/shop-mobiles-tablets/asus/).

The time to unbox has dawned upon us. ASUS ZenFone 4, weighing in at 115g, has a 4-inch TFT LCD, which gives you better appreciation of photos you take with better pixel quality vs. a QWERTY phone you’ve been delaying to replace. Enjoy 8GB internal storage for all your music, photos, videos, phonebook contacts and other files and even an additional 64GB via an external microSD. ASUS ZenFone 5 with 2GB RAM is slightly similar to ZenFone 4, but as expected, more powerful. It’s also obviously wider with a 5-inch IPS display at higher megapixel count of 1280 x 720 @294ppi.

With Intel Atom Z2560 1.6GHz dual-core processor with HyperThreading Technology, it seems to be a faster processor. Internal and external storage, Bluetooth, WiFi capability and 3G/HSPA+ are head to head for both ASUS Zenfone 4 and 5 but Zenfone 5 has a significantly stronger battery output at 2110mAh. It’s also Dual-SIM which people who use at least two networks find very useful. It’s a tad bit heavier too.

Better display features for Zenfone 5 and the 8MP BSI rear camera with LED flash totally separates it from what Zenfone 4 can offer, other than a stronger 2MP front-facing camera perfect for “beauty” shots. More importantly, ASUS Zenfone 5 outfitted to have 1080p video recording @30fps.

Both Zenfone models come with ASUS ZenUI, the all-new mobile user interface with over 1000 enhancements that make ASUS mobile devices even more fun and seamless to use. Pinoy will surely find great value as these phones are priced very competitively.
