Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day but that theory is debunked on Saturdays and Sundays. Brunch is the most important meal of the weekend. Weekend is the only part of the week sleep is relished and we are not forced to an early start.
There is nothing not to love about brunches. It makes you catch up on a meal you almost missed and bridges the start of the day and mid-day into one appropriated time or excuse to eat. It’s the best time to recap the week and relive Friday and Saturday’s fun over a sumptuous meal.
For those who make most of their weekends partying the night away, usually somewhere at the Fort, and are still too drunk to cook, munch on some great brunch at Main Street along Upper McKinley Hill. No I’m not reminding myself since I don’t drink (hic!) but I do eat and I eat quite a lot.

Take a Right Turn to Main Street
–
I find myself returning to Main Street, this time to try their brunch menu. If there is a chic interior, this is the male counterpart. It has a handsome simplicity that’s bohemian, elegant and trendy. The bike is still there hanging along with some framed travel photos and I still want to pilfer some of their vinyl records. They got some awesome records there like Black Sabbath.
But I’d probably rummage their kitchen first.

Main Street Frittata P260
Three eggs, fried chorizo, cherry tomatoes, kesong puti, tangy sour cream topping
Fluffy eggs frittata with pleasant salty chorizo bites calmed by the anecdotal presence of tomatoes, kesong puti and sour cream.
The Egg Slut P300
Sesame bun, creamy scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, sriracha mayo, caramelized onion, side of hand cut fries
Classic Eggs Benny P300

The Bacon Slab P320
In-house thick cut applewood smoked bacon, two eggs sunny-side up, sweet potato mash
I love crispy bacon to bits – the one that crackles and gives you pure sinful joy. But if it’s not crispy, I’d take you as a slab… overweight, plump, fat. I like the apple-y smoke taste on the bacon and perfectly matched with the mushy sweet potato mash.
Buttermilk Fried Chicken Bacon Waffle P330
Three pieces buttermilk fried chicken, bacon and chive waffle, don papa rum infused honey, apple coleslaw
This was the showstopper. It reminded of Cleopatra’s grand arrival at Rome. It was beautiful, gasp-inducing, and something I would not want to share with anyone. I almost did a slow clap as it was being brought to our table from the kitchen window but caught myself. I could smell a waft of the honey and the fried chicken and I’m drawn.
The Buttermilk Chicken pieces were golden, fried to a crisp perfection. The light batter was aromatic and savory with juicy sweet meat inside. I love the waffles as the accompanying starch, but I could use Main Street’s herbed rice too as it brings out the stark flavors of the meat more. This plate definitely is made of awesome.

Kitayama Hanging Tender Steak and Eggs P390
200 grams Kitayama hanging tender, salsa verde, pickled radish, poached egg, roasted potatoes
Cooked medium splendidly, pierce the white dome and let the sunshine gush out and cream the robust meat on the plate. It’s a complete meal that can tide you over until dinner.
Weekend mornings are great communal time to get together with a group of friends. Waking up when the day is a quarter over doesn’t feel like a crime anymore. At Main Street, brunch is as much about ambiance and company as it is about the food. If hunger is a felony, I don’t mind being a criminal on the loose on Main Street.
