Next to my favorite Mexican, I enjoy Persian food since their sauces and spices are also divine. Italian and Japanese cuisines come close 3rd or tie it at 2nd place. Remember in high school where there was a Shawarma explosion and it became a food craze? The recently opened Shawarma Guys at the Fort is bringing back all the love we had for everything Shawarma.
There are a number of Persian restaurants in town where you can get shawarma, that gyro-type of wrap or Persian-version of a soft taco if you will, filled with either grilled lamb, beef, chicken, turkey or veal skimmed off a vertical spit. Since it’s the dawn of a new age, Shawarma Guys is veering a little bit off authenticity and taking on a more playful yet contrastingly intense approach to shawarma.
On the Table
Beef Shawarma P150
To start off, you can delay the deviation and stick with the familiar. Shawarma Guys offers you strips of grilled beef and vegetables wrapped in pita with hints of garlic. You can also order their Chicken Shawarma (P140) or Lamb Shawarma (P180).
Instead of the normal shawarma, add 20 pesos for buttered basmati rice and grilled tomato
Sisig Shawarma P140
Want something that can get your palates tickled? Their Sisig Shawarma can get your taste buds prickling in delight while appreciating the different textural crunch as you bite the pita wrap. Follow my lead and drizzle generously Shawarma Guys’ garlic sauce and you’re in for a treat.
Bacon Shawarma
This shawarma got Spanky’s heart beating so fast, his blood pressure almost shot up, as if a hot Victoria Secret Angel just walked in. Crispy bacon inside your shawarma tastes sinfully good with more the lean meat than fat. Richie joins Spanky in hailing this bacon shawarma. I suggest you eat it as soon as it hits your table since nobody wants cold bacon… not even bacon lovers.
If you are a meat lover and not very fond of veggies, you can try ordering The Timo (P250), named after one of the owners, which has variants of meat like chicken, beef, lamb, but absolutely no trace of vegetables for those who couldn’t care less.
Shawarma Guys also offer a variant called The Breakfast Shawarma (P170) which has Chorizo , Egg, and Capsicum Chutney. After hitting Urbn and you’re ready for some dawn chow, The Breakfast Shawarma might be right up your alley.
Garlic Ox Brain P150
When friends order this before, I don’t even come close to touching it until my curiosity got the best of me and an egg-like custardy version of Persia Grill converted me. Shawarma Guys’ version is specked with lots of garlic bringing the sinful custard up a notch.
It’s blobby but when it hits your fork, it’s almost spreadable on anything I can set my eyes on the table… rice or shawarma… and upon reaching my tongue, it melts into this sinful creaminess.

Shawarma Guys also offer Kebab Meals, 2 sticks of any of the meats served with buttered basmati rice and grilled tomato.
The BlackBenny Platter P470
Beef Kebab, Beef Tenderloin, Chicken, Lamb Kebab, and Side Salad and Pita Bread
This was hands down my favorite of the night. The beautiful colors of the different meats spoke to me as soon as my eyes interlocked with the dish. It’s like 4 strong sturdy men, each carrying its own character, are lined up ready to give some loving and my tongue is absolutely ready to be caressed.
Both the chicken meat and beef kebab were juicy, tender and succulently meaty and tasty. The beef tenderloin gives a more muscular texture but it’s also soft to chew. No need for yogurt sauce but since I love sauces, I still put a lot for that added wetness. The grilled tomato’s acidity cuts the meatiness giving balance to the whole dish. Love, love, love.
Lassi P90
Yogurt Shake
Their Mango Lassi (P100) seemed more popular seeing it on the tables but I stuck with the basic and just washed down all the flavors with their Lassi, creamy blend of sweet and tart. Assorted fruit shakes P80 just ask for availability of fresh fruits of the season. Blue Lemonade (P35) is also available.
There are also other familiar dishes offered in their menu like the Couscous Salad, Baba Ganoush, Keema, Seafood Biryani (P280) and Chicken Makhni (P220).
Chef Benny knows how much I’m crushing on Urbn’s Chocolate Love-ah Cake and allowed it to make the long trip from Urbn to Shawarma Guys restaurant for my sweet ending of the night. Thanks Chef B! 🙂

Best eaten in the wee hours, probably after a night of gigging or clubbing—this glistening artery blocker is a favorite of most guys, especially those who love their booze. The garlic flavor of the ox brain permeates the deep-fried chunks, making them delightfully tasty. Drizzle lemon juice over it and eat with some pita or basmati rice and you will get addicted. Wash it down with a bottle of San Miguel beer (P60), Tanduay Ice (P60) or Red Horse beer (P60), and then you can call it a night.
