Two Sundays ago, Bubba and I were furniture-hunting in the Quezon City area. We visited Mandaue Foam, chanced upon a couple of friends and bought some items. They were celebrating their 40th year anniversary and most of their items had 40% discounts, while others were marked down by 20%. Let’s just say I bought quite a hefty bunch of items.
I also dropped by Resurrecion Gallery near E. Rodriguez for vintage finds. I saw in Real Living Magazine, June 2012 edition, this white glass-framed cabinet “Cabinet of Curiosities” and hoped that it was still there.
Bubba initially wanted to eat at Tasty since we were near Banawe area from Mandaue Foam BMA branch but since we were already near Timog by the time of dinner, he suggested eating at Snackaroo instead. I haven’t tried it there but he discovered it when he ate there with the team during one of their planning sesh.
Snackaroo is an open-air eatery along Jimenez Street. We reached the place and it was packed up until we left it around 830pm. What they do best here is simple. Affordable T-Bone and Porterhouse Steaks, each priced at Php 150. They grill it according to your preference.
They also offer other items in the menu, but also have ready to eat items similar to carinderia style. Since they ran out of T-Bone, Bubba and I ordered Porterhouse steaks. He had an additional order of Grilled Bangus belly.
The steaks are served without rice so you still have to order rice if you want your steaks with starch. They serve a cup of gravy on the side for your dousing pleasure. The Porterhouse was medium-sized and gives you the bang for your buck. It’s not overly seasoned but just had the right light marinade without sacrificing the taste of the beef.
Some parts needed more seasoning but nothing that their gravy or combination of soy sauce and Jufran hot sauce couldn’t fix.
Of course, nothing but a cold glass of Coke light to wash it all down.
If you’re not that iffy about eating in that kind of ambience, plastic tables and chairs, you’ll think it’s worth the trip. I think at that price point, it’s the most satisfying and juiciest Porterhouse steak I ever had.
I’ve been craving for it since then. It’s been two weeks and I want to visit soon. Next time I’ll order 2 for myself.
