Carmex Lip Balm in the Philippines

The Carmex package that contained a Carmex lip balm in small jar type and tube type arrived sometime early July.  It was a busy busy month and it took me quite some time to use the product.

But my lips first touched the magic of Carmex, not from the product sent to me.  It was during the shoot of the Pantene TVC.  Illustrious MUA (that means make-up artist to those less inclined) Eileen Ramos did my lips last and before she put any MAC lipstick on, she slathered my lips with this waxy lip balm.  After a few minutes, my lips were all moistened up that I kept on smacking them together.  I asked what brand she used and she said Carmex.  It rang a bell, which made me excited to use the product.

I love MAC but MAC matte lipsticks tend to dry your lips surface like nobody else’s business.

Backtracking a little, I’ve stopped using lip balm many many years ago… since I discovered Lancome Juicy Tubes which acts perfectly as both a lip moisturizer and lip tint.  It keeps my lips away from breakage and maintains my lips glossy shine.

When I started using MAC lipstick, the Lancome Juicy Tubes didn’t quite cut it.  I needed heavy moisturizing artillery to combat the dryness the lipstick causes.  I didn’t know where to look so I still opted to use Lancome.

That whole day of the Pantene shoot and even late in the evening, my lips were still moisturized with no trace of cracking.  That’s when I finally pulled my very own Carmex lip balm and decided to use it every day.

I gave Bubba the Carmex tube in cherry flavor since he uses a lip balm stick daily to combat dryness.  Sun exposure, chafing winds, frigid temperatures in the office, and dry air can cause dry, crusty and chapped lips.  If you like some flavor from your lip balm, the cherry flavor in solid stick is a sweet way to protect your lips.

I’m content to use the Carmex in jar type since I love dabbing my ring finger with the balm and massaging my lips with it.

From the Carmex website:

Unless you live in a damp cave, you’re exposed almost every day to elements that can suck your lips dry. Without their natural moisture, your lips become irritated and rough—a crispy husk of their former moist glory.  But you can help protect your lips—the most fragile skin on your body—just by smoothing on a little Carmex® lip balm.

Carmex adds natural emollients to your lips, while locking in your own body’s moisture to help protect against chapping and cracking. Lanolin, for example, is a natural substance that locks in moisture. The lanolin in Carmex is easily absorbed into the delicate skin of your lips, where it provides a temporary barrier against the drying effects of wind, heat and cold.

Also, several of our product varieties include SPF 15 sunscreen to help protect your lips from the sun’s damaging rays. It’s effective protection you can wear every day.

Carmex lip balm restores the moisture that wind and dry, cold air can suck right out of your lips. One of the moisturizing ingredients in Carmex lip balm is cocoa butter, a natural emollient. Cocoa beans were discovered by the mysterious ancient Mayans. Whatever caused their great civilization to vanish, at least it wasn’t chapped lips.

The active ingredients from the Carmex original are Camphor that alleviates pain, Menthol that kills germs and relieves discomfort, Phenol that gently numbs your sore lips and removes old, dead skin.  Carmex lip balm is supposedly packed with ingredients specially selected to help heal your chapped, cracked, burned and otherwise abused lips.

Now I use Carmex lip balm even if I’m not wearing any lipstick.  It gives me smooth and supple lips each time.

Thanks to Peter of grumpyurbanslacker.com and Grace Tan-Chua for sending me my now favorite lip balm!

  2. Its my favorite!

It has been in Manila for a year or two, I think. I’ve been able to buy it in PCX and its cheaper there compared to the those being sold in PX stores!!

    LOooooooooooove Carmex to bits!!

OT: the most effective for me STILL has to be Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. Carmex is the cheaper alternative though.. 🙂

  3. Thanks Jane! From the Carmex team

  4. BTW, Carmex lip balms are now available at the Health & Beauty Section of all Robinson’s Department Store, Landmark Trinoma and Makati, all PCX outlets, and first Aid in Greenbelt. Marie Jay in Shoppesville Greenhills also carries legitimate Carmex lip balms.

  7. @ Brian:

Sorry I’m not too sure about the price. But the one I received is still not halfway through so the jar type really lasts long.
